Saniya had a teaching session about how we could try to read words we are unsure of. She was able to identify different letters and letter blends within basic sight words, but still looked for confirmation from me. Saniya used her finger to point to each word she was reading and would attempt words that were unfamiliar to her. When she came across a word she found tricky, I wrote it on the board and the whole group worked together to stretch out all the sounds and figure out what the word was. When other learners read their stories, Saniya remained on task, listening patiently and making a good effort at decoding and reading words that they were not sure of.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
|
Saniya showed that she was able to listen to other people and help them when they were stuck (Participating and Contributing). She has developed in confidence, and is beginning to look for help when she needs it (Managing Self). In this lesson, Saniya showed that she had an understanding of basic sight words and is starting to decode some new words that are outside of her regular day to day vocabulary (Using Language, Symbols and Text).

WALT: count on from 5-20 using materials
In maths time today, Saniya and I were practising counting on from numbers above 5 to 20. Saniya really enjoyed playing the different games and doing the activities with the different materials. We used dice to practice counting on- starting with adding/counting the dice and then counting on from a number I’d tell her. She would often start counting from the number I gave her eg. 7 rather than the next number eg. 8 so practiced many times. Saniya got better and better and her confidence grew. Then we did some examples in her book, using the language ‘what comes next?’. Saniya then practiced counting on using the abacus, counters and a number line.

Evidence of learning

see video. Saniya is gaining confidence in her number recognition. I wonder if she likes to count things at home?
|
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
|
Saniya is working at Stage two in maths (IKAN test) and is demonstrating her Capabilities in counting materials one-to-one (Using Language, Symbols and Texts). She is able to recognise/read numerals to 20. Saniya is also developing her Collaborative skills as she works with others to share her knowledge and consolidate her own understandings (Relating to others/Participating and Contributing).

A website review of Wonderopolis
I found this website when my Learning Coach Mrs Dillner told me to learn about using nice manners online and blogging.
One thing I enjoyed about this website is watching the video about the winter fox.
You should visit this website and let me know what you think by commenting below!
