Drama Learning Story - May 2015

Learner: Jasmine, Humaam, Rohullah and Saniya                       Date: May 20, 2015
Learning Area: The Arts- Drama                                 Learning Coach: Diana Wilkes
Learning Observed
During iExperience this term with the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), we have been learning how to use movement and space to effectively communicate.  The lasting understanding is that people represent their culture and heritage in different dramatic ways- past and present.  Learners had a variety of opportunities to explore the use of space, props and their body for communicating different ideas.  Jasmine worked in a group with Humaam, Rohullah and Saniya and they all used dramatic techniques to explore drama elements and conventions and exhibited a real passion for performing.  When asked to initiate and develop ideas with each others to create a dramatic 1 minute skit about a culture they enthusiastically engaged in the process as a team with Jasmine taking a leadership role.
Evidence of learning
The team makes effective use of space, facial expressions and movement.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
All members of this team demonstrated that they can work Collaboratively with others towards a common goal.Together they exemplified Capabilities in following complex instructions and ultimately met the success criteria.  They related to each other well and managed themselves and their time wisely. Together they were able to make Connections between what they knew collectively about the culture and how to express that with movement, no sound and imaginary props.
Next Learning Steps
  • Further explore movements they can make with body, voice, space, and creation of facial expressions to enhance dramatic effect

Learner:  Saniya           Learning Coach: Margaret Patrick     Date:  22.04.2015
Learning Area: Mathematics Narrative Assessment
Learning Observed
Saniya has been developing her addition skills. She was needing to use one-to-one pointing to find the sum of two numbers by counting all the objects. Saniya learnt to hold the first number in her head and count on using materials. She has now progressed to holding the first number in her head and can count on using imaging. Nodding her head has helped her imaging while adding on the second number.
Saniya writes some of her numbers/digits incorrectly. She has been practicing forming the number/digits 7 and 2 correctly. Saniya is left handed and so this may affect her formation of  digits. She needs to think about them when she is writing and will pause before writing these digits.
Evidence of learning
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Saniya is demonstrating that she understands the discrete nature of numbers and can count on when adding to find the sum of 2 numbers to 10 independently and to 20 with support.
Saniya working at Stage 3 - Counting from one by imaging to Advance Counting.
She is demonstrating her capabilities in developing the Key Competencies of Using Language, Symbols and text and Thinking.
Next Learning Steps
  • count from the bigger number in an addition equation when it is not in the starting position eg 3+7=    so    7+3= 10
  • use a blank number line to record bigger number and count on to find the sum.
  • add numbers to 20 using imaging independently.
  • correctly form all the digits 0-20.
